Burmese Days is a novel written by George Orwell portray John Flory, a white British officer sent to an outpost of the empire in Burma, which was under British rule at the time. While race and economic power are the obvious themes, the backdrop is a beautiful but ravaged Burma. The turn of civil events in Modern day Myanmar reveals more of the complexity of the nation's political and cultural composition, but the tenacity of the nation also shines through, just like it did in the novel.
